The Planning Inspectorate has begun a six-month pilot of an internally developed case management system built on PostgreSQL and the Django web framework, aiming to reduce dependency on the proprietary ePlanSoft platform used for national infrastructure planning cases. The pilot covers a subset of Development Consent Order applications and is being monitored by MHCLG's digital planning team. If successful, the system could be open-sourced and offered to local planning authorities via the Open Digital Planning initiative.
