Southwark Council has completed a migration of its public-facing planning portal to an open source infrastructure built on PostgreSQL, PostGIS, and a React-based frontend, replacing a proprietary system from Idox Group. The move is expected to save approximately £180,000 annually in licensing costs. Council officers say the new system offers better integration with the Planning Inspectorate's APIs and reduces vendor lock-in across the authority's digital services.
