Several UK water utilities, including Severn Trent and Yorkshire Water, are accelerating migrations from Oracle Database to PostgreSQL following changes to Oracle's virtualisation licensing terms that significantly increased costs for virtualised infrastructure. Consultancy Dalibo UK reports a threefold increase in enquiries from utilities sector clients in the past 12 months. The migrations are being used as an opportunity to modernise legacy asset management and GIS workloads simultaneously.
