Ordnance Survey has launched a refreshed developer API for its National Geographic Database, with the backend infrastructure rebuilt on GeoServer and PostGIS. The decision to adopt open source components was disclosed in a technical blog post, with OS citing improved community support and reduced vendor dependency. The API is already being consumed by several PropTech startups and local authority planning portals.
