A collaboration between the Environment Agency and the Alan Turing Institute has produced FloodView, a browser-based flood risk tool built on OpenStreetMap, GeoServer, and Leaflet.js. The tool allows local planning officers to overlay flood zone data with proposed development sites in near real time, with no proprietary GIS software required. FloodView has been made available under an MIT licence on GitHub and is already being evaluated by planning teams in Leeds and Cardiff.
