OpenStreetMap Data Powers New Digital Planning Tool for Scottish Councils

A consortium of Scottish local authorities, including Stirling and Perth & Kinross Councils, has launched a digital planning validation tool built on OpenStreetMap and the open source PostGIS spatial database. The tool automatically cross-references submitted planning applications against current land use and road network data. Developers from public sector consultancy Datalabs Scotland say the stack cost significantly less than proprietary alternatives.
