The OpenBIM Consortium has formally endorsed the adoption of IFC Rail and IFC Road open standards for publicly funded UK infrastructure schemes, following a successful pilot on a section of the A14 corridor improvement programme. The move is seen as a direct challenge to proprietary BIM platforms such as Autodesk Revit and Bentley ProjectWise. The UK Infrastructure and Projects Authority has indicated it will reference the open standards in updated procurement guidance due later this year.
