The Planning Inspectorate in England has begun a pilot deployment of GeoServer and GeoNode to underpin a new public-facing data portal for nationally significant infrastructure project examinations. The open source stack replaces a costly ESRI ArcGIS Online subscription used for publishing examination documents and spatial data. The Inspectorate's digital team stated the move aligns with the Cabinet Office open source preference policy and will allow greater customisation of the examination mapping interface.
