Following the landmark 1.0 stable release of FreeCAD earlier this year, several UK-based civil engineering SMEs including Curtins and Hydrock have begun structured evaluations of the software for preliminary design and site modelling tasks. The release addressed long-standing stability issues with the topological naming problem, making FreeCAD viable for professional workflows. The Open Source Design Foundation is coordinating a sector feedback programme to guide future BIM-oriented feature development.
