Autodesk Rival OpenBIM Platform BlenderBIM Gains Traction in UK Practices

BlenderBIM, the open source IFC-native BIM authoring tool built on top of Blender, is seeing growing adoption among small and mid-sized UK architectural practices seeking to reduce dependency on Autodesk Revit licensing costs. Firms including Squire and Partners and several multidisciplinary practices in Manchester have begun piloting the tool for live projects under the UK BIM Framework. The IfcOpenShell community, which underpins BlenderBIM's geometry engine, released a significant performance update in April 2025 targeting large hospital and infrastructure models.
