UK Government Backs Open Source Digital Planning Tools in DLUHC Consultation Response

/

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities has signalled strong support for open source planning software in its formal response to the Planning Data Platform consultation, citing interoperability and supplier independence as key drivers. The response specifically references the Open Planning Project's development of RIPA and Back-office Planning System as exemplars. Local authorities are encouraged to pilot these tools ahead of the expected 2025 mandate for digital planning submissions.
