PostgreSQL and PostGIS Power New National Underground Asset Register Platform

/

The joint venture delivering the UK's National Underground Asset Register (NUAR) has confirmed that its core geospatial data infrastructure is built on PostgreSQL and PostGIS, rejecting commercial spatial database alternatives on grounds of cost and flexibility. The platform, developed in collaboration with Geospatial Commission and Ordnance Survey, now holds subsurface utility data for over 40 local authority areas. The open source stack is being packaged for potential reuse by other national mapping programmes.
