A survey by the Association for Public Service Excellence has found that PostGIS, the open source spatial extension for PostgreSQL, is now used by 38 percent of UK highway authorities for road and street asset management, up from 22 percent in 2021. Authorities including Kent County Council and Transport for Greater Manchester credited lower total cost of ownership compared to Esri ArcGIS as a key factor. The OSGeo:UK chapter has announced new training resources tailored to highway data models.
