The PostGIS project has released version 3.5, introducing native support for CityGML-aligned 3D geometry queries, a feature long requested by urban planners and smart city developers. The update includes new functions for building height analysis and shadow modelling directly within PostgreSQL. Several UK local authorities participating in the Geovation Hub programme have already begun testing the new capabilities for digital twin projects.
