ODK and OpenStreetMap Combine for Scottish Vacant Land Survey

/

Aberdeenshire Council and the Improvement Service have piloted a data collection workflow combining Open Data Kit (ODK) with OpenStreetMap to identify and classify vacant and derelict land across rural Aberdeenshire. Field officers used ODK Collect on mobile devices, with results automatically synced to a PostGIS database and visualised through a public-facing uMap dashboard. The Scottish Government has indicated interest in scaling the approach nationally as part of its brownfield remediation strategy.
