Highland Council has gone live with a self-hosted Nextcloud Hub 8 deployment, replacing Microsoft SharePoint Online and Dropbox Business for internal document collaboration across its 6,200 staff. The implementation, carried out by Edinburgh-based integrator Catalyst IT, took eight months and involved migration of over 14 terabytes of files. The council cited data sovereignty concerns alongside cost savings as primary drivers, noting that sensitive planning and social care documents will now remain on infrastructure within Scottish borders.
