MHCLG Publishes Open Source Guidance for Digital Planning Software Procurement

/

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has released updated procurement guidance encouraging local planning authorities to consider open source solutions when commissioning digital planning software, as part of its Pathfinder Programme follow-up. The guidance specifically references FOSS tools including GeoServer, PostGIS, and OpenLayers as viable components for planning portals and local plan interactive maps. Gateshead and South Cambridgeshire district councils are named as early adopters of compliant open source stacks.
