The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has opened a consultation proposing that planning software procured by local authorities under future PropTech funding rounds must meet minimum open source criteria, including publicly accessible codebases and open licence conditions. The proposal follows criticism that previous Digital Planning Programme grants led to fragmented proprietary tools with limited interoperability. Responses from councils, suppliers, and civic tech groups are invited until 30 September 2025.
