Infrastructure contractor Balfour Beatty has completed a company-wide migration to self-hosted Mattermost after an internal data sovereignty review raised concerns about sensitive project communications transiting US-jurisdiction servers. The deployment covers approximately 7,000 employees across UK infrastructure and highways divisions. Balfour Beatty's IT team integrated Mattermost with its existing OpenLDAP directory and Jira instance, reducing overall collaboration tooling costs by an estimated 60%.
