The Local Government Association has announced funding for a six-month pilot in which three county councils — Shropshire, Cumbria, and Norfolk — will use OpenStreetMap data combined with the Overpass API to improve routing accuracy for adult social care transport services. The pilot aims to address gaps in commercial mapping datasets in rural areas. Results will be published as an open case study to encourage wider sector adoption.
