Hackney Council has completed a phased migration of its planning application mapping tools to a fully open source stack centred on QGIS Server and PostGIS. The project, delivered in partnership with Astun Technology, replaces a legacy Esri ArcGIS deployment and is expected to save the authority approximately £180,000 annually in licensing costs. The new system went live in January and handles over 4,000 active planning cases.
