The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities has launched a pilot with five local planning authorities — including Southwark, Bristol, and North Yorkshire — testing open source planning tools developed under the Open Digital Planning project. The tools, built on a Python and PostgreSQL stack, aim to streamline validation of planning applications and integrate with the emerging Planning Data Platform. Results from the pilot are expected to inform the upcoming Planning and Infrastructure Bill's digital provisions.
