Buckinghamshire Council Adopts OpenStreetMap Basemaps to Cut Mapping Spend

Buckinghamshire Council has switched its public-facing planning and highways portals to use OpenStreetMap-based tiles rendered via the open source Maplibre GL JS library, replacing a commercial HERE Maps contract. The move is projected to save the council approximately £180,000 over three years. The authority worked with geospatial consultancy Astun Technology to implement and style the new mapping stack.
