A growing number of UK architectural practices, including Allies and Morrison and Hawkins Brown, are reporting a shift toward Blender for architectural visualisation work, citing the 4.x series performance improvements and its zero licensing cost. The studios say Blender's Cycles renderer now meets client presentation standards previously requiring Autodesk 3ds Max or Lumion. The trend is accelerating as practices face pressure to reduce software overheads following construction sector margin compression.
