VolkerWessels UK and Kier Group have both confirmed pilot programmes using the open source BlenderBIM Add-on, which enables full IFC-native BIM authoring within the Blender 3D environment. The pilots focus on infrastructure projects under the NEC4 contract framework, where IFC open standards are increasingly mandated. Supporters argue the tool could democratise BIM access for smaller subcontractors currently priced out of Autodesk Revit licences.
