Thames Water has deployed an Apache Kafka-based data streaming pipeline to consolidate real-time telemetry from over 4,000 pumping stations and treatment works across its network. The implementation, carried out with support from Confluent's professional services team using the open source Kafka distribution, replaces a legacy SCADA aggregation layer that dated to 2009. The utility reports a 40 percent reduction in data infrastructure operating costs and improved incident detection latency of under 90 seconds.
