Apache Flink Powers Real-Time Flood Risk Modelling for Environment Agency

/

The Environment Agency has deployed Apache Flink as the stream-processing backbone for its updated real-time flood risk modelling service, replacing a proprietary event-processing layer that had been in use since 2017. The open source framework handles ingest from over 2,400 river gauge sensors across England, feeding updated risk scores into the public Flood Information Service. The agency's digital team published a technical blog post describing the migration and releasing configuration templates under an MIT licence on GitHub.
