The Planning Portal, operated on behalf of the UK government, is evaluating a migration from proprietary mapping components to OpenLayers as part of a broader modernisation of its digital planning submission infrastructure. The initiative aligns with DLUHC's Open Digital Planning programme and aims to reduce vendor lock-in within the national planning application service. A technical discovery phase is expected to conclude ahead of the Autumn 2025 spending review.
