Manchester City Council has completed a phased migration of its planning application portal to an open source technology stack built on PostgreSQL, PostGIS, and a React frontend, replacing a legacy proprietary system from Idox. The project, delivered in partnership with digital agency Unboxed, is expected to save the council approximately £340,000 over five years. The codebase has been published on GitHub under an MIT licence for other authorities to reuse.
