Southwark Council has migrated its public-facing planning map portal to a fully open source stack built on OpenStreetMap data, MapLibre GL JS, and a PostGIS backend, replacing a legacy Esri-hosted solution. The move is expected to save approximately £180,000 annually in licensing fees. The council worked with geospatial consultancy Astun Technology to deliver the implementation, which went live for residents last month.
