The QGIS project has released version 3.38, introducing improved 3D terrain rendering and experimental support for IFC file import, allowing planners and architects to overlay BIM models directly onto geospatial data. The update also includes a redesigned point cloud processing toolbar, benefiting surveying workflows. OSGeo UK has encouraged local authorities to evaluate the release as a replacement for proprietary desktop GIS licences.
