The QGIS project has released version 3.38, introducing improved support for IFC file imports and direct integration with OpenStreetMap building footprint layers. The update allows urban planners and GIS analysts to overlay BIM model data onto geospatial maps without proprietary middleware. Several UK local authorities, including Bristol City Council and Leeds City Council, have already begun piloting the feature within their spatial planning workflows.
