The Planning Inspectorate has begun a pilot of a new digital appeals portal built on GeoServer and PostgreSQL, developed in collaboration with the Open Digital Planning programme backed by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities. The system allows appellants to submit geospatially referenced evidence directly, reducing manual data entry at the Inspectorate. A full public rollout is targeted for early 2026 pending evaluation of the six-month pilot.
