PostgreSQL Replaces Oracle at Highways England as Infrastructure Data Backbone

/

National Highways has confirmed the completion of a multi-year programme migrating its core asset and infrastructure data systems from Oracle Database to PostgreSQL, with PostGIS extensions handling geospatial asset records. The project, managed alongside systems integrator Fujitsu, covers data for over 4,500 miles of motorway and major A-road. Officials stated that annual database licensing savings will be reinvested into the agency's open-data publication programme under its commitments to the UK National Data Strategy.
