The Scottish Government has launched a public-facing digital planning portal built on OpenStreetMap base layers combined with PostGIS spatial databases, replacing a legacy Esri-dependent system. The platform, developed in partnership with Improvement Service Scotland, allows citizens to search and comment on planning applications through an open-source stack. Authorities including Highland Council and South Lanarkshire Council are among the first to go live on the new system.
