The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has confirmed funding for a pilot project using Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial tools, including GeoServer and MapLibre GL, to underpin the emerging national planning data platform. The pilot, delivered in partnership with the Planning Data team at MHCLG and Open Systems Lab, will test the scalability of open source spatial APIs against current proprietary solutions. Results are expected to inform procurement decisions ahead of the Digital Planning programme's next phase.
