Homes England has announced a pilot programme exploring open-source BIM tooling, centred on FreeCAD and the open IFC standard, across three affordable housing schemes in the East Midlands. The initiative, developed in partnership with BRE Group, aims to reduce vendor lock-in with proprietary BIM platforms and lower software costs for small and medium-sized contractors in the supply chain. Early results will be published in a report due Q3 2025.
