A coalition of European contractors and consultancies, including Arup and Skanska, has published a joint position paper urging wider adoption of open IFC-based BIM workflows over proprietary formats. The paper specifically endorses BlenderBIM and IfcOpenShell as production-ready alternatives for IFC authoring and validation. The move follows growing frustration with interoperability costs and has prompted renewed discussion within the UK BIM Alliance about mandating open format deliverables on publicly funded infrastructure projects.
