OpenStreetMap Data Powers New Flood Risk Visualisation Tool for Environment Agency

/

A newly launched flood risk visualisation tool developed for the Environment Agency uses OpenStreetMap base data combined with the agency's own hydraulic modelling outputs, rendered through an open source MapLibre GL JS frontend. The tool, built by geospatial consultancy Astun Technology, allows local resilience forums to interrogate surface water and fluvial flood scenarios at property level without requiring specialist GIS software. A public beta is expected later this year following accessibility review.
