The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities has released a prototype planning tool that combines OpenStreetMap base data with its official Brownfield Land Register dataset to help local planning authorities identify regeneration opportunities. Built on GeoServer and OpenLayers, the tool is published under an MIT licence and hosted on GitHub. Pilot authorities including Sheffield City Council and Bristol City Council are currently evaluating the platform ahead of a wider rollout planned for autumn 2025.
