A growing number of English district councils are deploying Nextcloud as a self-hosted alternative to Microsoft 365 SharePoint and OneDrive, driven by concerns over data sovereignty and rising SaaS costs. Fenland District Council and Ribble Valley Borough Council are among those reported to be running Nextcloud Hub in production, supported by UK-based managed service provider Kolab Systems. The trend reflects wider pressure on smaller councils to reduce dependency on US hyperscaler platforms.
