PostgreSQL Adopted as Spatial Data Backbone for National Highways Asset Register

/

National Highways has confirmed that PostgreSQL with the PostGIS spatial extension will serve as the primary database backend for its new road asset management register, replacing an ESRI-hosted solution. The decision follows a competitive procurement process and is intended to reduce vendor lock-in while improving data sharing with local highway authorities. The implementation is being led by consultancy Informed Solutions and is expected to go live in early 2026.
