The Scottish Government has committed funding to an OpenInfra pilot project aimed at standardising underground utility data exchange using open formats based on the IFC and CityGML schemas. The initiative, led by the University of Edinburgh and Transport Scotland, seeks to reduce street works conflicts and duplication across network operators. A working group including Scottish Water, SGN, and SP Energy Networks has been formed to define an open data specification by Q3 2025.
