Following the landmark release of FreeCAD 1.0, several UK SME architecture and engineering practices have begun piloting the open source CAD platform as an alternative to Autodesk Revit for BIM workflows. The Building Research Establishment has published an early compatibility report assessing FreeCAD's IFC export capabilities against UK BIM Framework Level 2 requirements. Adoption remains cautious among larger firms pending further plugin ecosystem development.
